SFI News:

The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) community lecture, “The Unlikely Power of Uncertainty and Contradiction” with Jordan Ellenberg is 7:30 p.m., Tuesday Oct. 18, at The Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe.

Math is often thought of as a discipline of certainty and consistency — of black and white, zeroes and ones. In reality, mathematics is full of uncertainty and contradiction. Jordan Ellenberg discusses how this gray area offers powerful tools for thinking about the seemingly non-mathematical matters that dominate our lives. Using wide-ranging

SUZANNE LYNNE
Los Alamos

I was talking to someone the other day about life in Los Alamos. My friend asked me whether or not my husband and I intended to stay in Los Alamos when we retire (many years from now). My friend still has school-aged children and we began discussing schools. My husband and I have two children who graduated from Los Alamos Public Schools. We talked about how we appreciate that Los Alamos Schools are as good Read More

Letter To The Editor: Opportunity To Continue Legacy Of Support For LAPS

By MARTHA KATKO
Los Alamos

A few days ago, Joanna Gillespie wrote of her appreciation for our community’s support of funding, which has allowed extensive improvements to our Los Alamos Public School facilities. I couldn’t agree more!

Los Alamos has a long history of quality in education for our youth with excellent teachers and great parental support, both of which continue today. Our school buildings, on the other hand, have really been showing their age. Excellent teachers can only do so much in buildings without adequate temperature control or insufficient wiring to keep up with today’s Read More

By KEVIN PARKINSON

LAHS Student

Los Alamos Public Schools is the number one school district in New Mexico, but how does it rank in energy usage and sourcing? Surprisingly well, a local student finds.

I am a junior at Los Alamos High School, and I feel fortunate to attend an institute of such high merit. When I was challenged in an online environmental competition, the Project Green Challenge, to find out how well my school used energy, I eagerly accepted. I have fond memories of instances where the school system has given me opportunities Read More

Los Alamos Federation Of School Employees Responds To New Mexico PED Teacher Evaluation System
