Cultivating Coders Offers Graduating Seniors Free Coding Boot Camps And Paid IT Training

ALBUQUERQUE High Schoolers across the state will graduate this month. Myriad opportunities await them, perhaps the most enticing of which is New Mexico’s own Cultivating Coders’ Coding Boot Camp.
 
Students ages 17-29 are invited to join a cohort with peers, from every walk of life, for a free computer coding camp in Albuquerque, starting in September. In collaboration with TechHire New Mexico, Cultivating Coders is making tech education accessible to everyone.

Twelve Hundred NM Students Simulate Life On Mars

ALBUQUERQUE — More than 1,200 fifth-graders participated in one of New Mexico’s most exciting STEM events last week, the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Mission to Mars.
 
Students from 37 New Mexico schools had the chance Friday to experience life on the Red Planet, at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Kindergarten students from the Los Alamos Public Schools were treated to the annual Teddy Bear Clinic Friday at Los Alamos Medical Center. The program gives students a better understanding of the emergency services available to the community and to build confidence and familiarize them with how these services work. Native Fish In The Classroom Field Day Today

The Native Fish in the Classroom program is a hands-on, semester-long project that allows students to raise native fish in their classrooms.  
 
For several months, students learn about the life history and issues facing our native fish. Students are responsible for feeding, maintaining aquariums and filter equipment, monitoring water quality, and monitoring the overall health of their fish.
 
The Native Fish in the Classroom Field Day is the culmination of their time with the fish. During the Field Day, students will release their fish and says their goodbyes.

Deadline Is Friday To Volunteer As ‘Actors’ For County-Wide Emergency Exercise At UNM-LA

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County will be conducting a County-wide active shooter exercise Saturday, May 18 at the University of New Mexico – Los Alamos campus at 4000 University Dr. in Los Alamos.

The campus will be closed May 18 for the exercise, which is being conducted in order to test and improve the County’s overall preparedness in responding to an active shooter event. The County has received 15 applications to be volunteers as “actors” in the exercise, but would like to have more participation from the community.

Los Alamos County Emergency Exercise Scheduled At UNM-LA; Campus Closed To Public May 18

This Saturday, May 18, Los Alamos County’s Emergency Management Division will be conducting an Active Shooter Full-Scale Exercise on the UNM-LA Campus in Los Alamos.
 
The campus will be closed to the public that day. This exercise is being conducted to assess the immediate response by law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel to a simulated active shooter event at the campus. The exercise will take place over seven hours, beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing until 3 p.m.
 
There will be setup and preparation activities beginning as early as 6:30 a.m., May 18.
