UNM-LA Presents Gift To Pat Soran

At the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board meeting Nov. 13, UNM-LA CEO Dr. Cindy Rooney presented Advisory Board member Pat Soran with a ceramic vase created by instructor Barb Yarnell in appreciation for the ceremonial mace, which Soran provided to the college for the May 2017 graduation. Soran created the mace, incorporating a unique UNM-LA symbol provided by instructor Skip Canfield. Gravitational Waves And Dark Matter At Planetarium

The Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium has a special gravitational wave planetarium show planned for at 7 p.m. Nov. 17, and the full-dome film Dark Matter Mystery is screening at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 and 19.
 
These shows are organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Education Center (PEEC), and the Friday show is expected to sell out.

San Ildefonso Pueblo Potter Barbara Gonzales Speaks At UNM-LA Wednesday

UNM-LA News:

The public is invited to hear San Ildefonso Pueblo Potter Barbara Gonzales speak at 10 a.m., Wednesday in the library at UNM-Los Alamos.

Gonzales, the great-granddaughter of Maria Martinez, is known for intricately carved red, black and polychrome bowls, inlaid coral and turquoise and her “good luck spider” motif.

She will talk about the historical aspects of her pottery, the ancestral lands on which Los Alamos is located and her life experiences. She also plans to demonstrate how she builds a pot.

LAMS Library Raises Funds For New Book

LAMS News: 

After removing worn out, old and unappealing books, the library staff at Los Alamos Middle School needs to buy some new ones to keep students reading.

To accomplish this, an account was established on MackinFunds called Books 4 Hawks to collect donations for new books. The goal is to raise $5,000.

The community is encouraged to contribute, even a small amount, to help make the middle school library collection better. Students want new and exciting books and library staff want them to continue reading.

Coffee Conversation At Aspen School Wednesday

The community is invited to attend the first Coffee Conversation for the Road of this school year at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Aspen Elementary School Library.

Looking for a night of music, entertainment, and a glorious meal? Come one, come all to the first ever Los Alamos Choirs’ Madrigal Feast, Dec. 1-2 as part of WinterFest.

This special concert event is a student-led scholarship fundraiser to help with travel and performance expenses for students with a need for assistance. Enjoy, as you travel back in time to the renaissance period and watch the royal court sing, entertain, and solve the mystery of Wes Hale.
 
Guests will be served a full three-course meal with dessert, catered by the Los Alamos Co-op and Los Alamos High
