Los Alamos Historical Society Archives Closed for Move
LAHS News:
The Los Alamos Historical Society Archives are closed in preparation for a move, tentatively scheduled for April.
The Los Alamos Historical Museum will remain open during its regular hours, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
The archives are closed in order to more than 1,800 linear feet of documents and photographs along with more than 20,000 items from Fuller Lodge and the Community Building to the new, purpose-built facility that is part of the new Municipal Building.

Council Seeks Volunteers for DPU Charter Review Committee

UPDATE: Workers Inadvertently Excavate Manhattan Era Ordnance – Military Arrive on Scene
Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities contract workers excavating dirt in the Los Alamos Canyon Resevoir Thursday afternoon picked up a military ordnance in their front loader. They didn’t realize they had the volatile device until they were unloading the dirt in Bayo Canyon near the old sewer plant. Members of the Los Alamos Bomb Squad, police and firefighters responded to the scene. Police secured the area until military explosive experts from Kirtland AFB arrived this morning to render the device safe. Today, Friday, Feb. 1, is the last day to cast a pre-election day vote or get an absentee ballot at the County Clerk’s Office.
The Clerk’s Office is across from the Reel Deal Movie Theater, in the modular office directly behind the Demo Garden on Central Avenue at Oppenheimer Drive.

There is no question that Jeannette Wallace was an outstanding woman who represented Los Alamos well at the state legislature for many years.
Wallace was elected 11 times to represent District 43 in the State House. She served 22 years there, which is quite amazing.
Wallace served our citizens several terms on the Los Alamos County Council. She was very active with the schools, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and served as a Sunday school teacher and did so much more for our community.

Los Alamos County is continuing its market research to assess demand and interest in broadband services, as well as explore preferences regarding methods of financing the Community Broadband Network (CBN) project and willingness to pay for the various costs to install and operate the network.
CBN is a “last-mile” fiber network that will provide open and advanced broadband communications access to all County residents, businesses and institutions.

Letter to the Editor: Consultants Must Love It Around Here!
By Jerry FlemingI read the other day that there is a serious shortfall in county receipts, and that now county management is scrambling to cut expenditures in order to avoid a serious deficit situation.
