ABC Community Suicide Prevention Course To Debut In Los Alamos Beginning Friday, Sept. 12 At Mesa Public Library

In response to New Mexico’s persistently high suicide rate, among the top five in the nation, Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) has developed a new suicide prevention course: ABC – Ask, Be Present, Connect.

The program debuts this August in Los Alamos and is free and open to the public.

“The ABC program goes beyond crisis intervention,” said curriculum creator, Marvel Harrison, PhD. “It includes upstream prevention by building a culture where it’s safe to ask someone if they’re thinking about suicide. Talking about suicide saves lives.”

Water customers from 9th Street heading east toward the airport are experiencing little-to-no water pressure and are encouraged to conserve water while repairs are being made.

A complication with an underground valve caused it to unexpectedly close, resulting in reduced water pressure for the area. Standby water crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and a contractor working on the water transmission line replacement project in the area are working to repair and restore service. LAAC Thanks Community For Its Support And Asks For Continued Help To Stay Open

In just 96 hours, supporters of the arts in Los Alamos raised more than $5,200 for the Los Alamos Arts Council (LAAC).
The organization has more than 30 new members, and sold out its first Tea Tasting fundraiser at Samizdat. Because of this community, the gallery will remain open this month (including the arts council’s final exhibit of 2025, opening Sept. 5) and classes scheduled for August are moving forward as planned.

System Downtime For Utility Accounts Scheduled Sept. 8

COUNTY News:

A two-day software upgrade starting Monday, Sept. 8, will impact public-facing operations of the Los Alamos County Customer Care Center (CCC), the customer service arm of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), and online access to the Utilities Self Service Portal on the DPU website.

The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday.

While CCC representatives will be available to customers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. as usual, they will not be able to make changes to or enter payment transactions for utility accounts.
