Even With Good Bike Plan, A Lot Is Up To The Cyclist

With the Laboratory beginning work on a site-wide bike plan, the County having just received Bronze level bicycle-friendly community status, and a plethora of good road and trail riding in Los Alamos and surrounding areas, there is a lot for local bicyclists to cheer about. That said, whether one is riding for fun, utility, or both, a lot still depends on the engagement and awareness of the rider in order to get out and back with the rubber side consistently down.

Drugs And Paraphernalia Found On Local Inmate

A 30-year-old Fairview woman was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession or use of drug paraphernalia after she was arrested Dec. 19 in the Los Alamos County Detention Center.

Following a search at the Detention Center, Melody Lopez was found to have in her bra two orange needle caps and the barrel and plunger part of a needle, both of which had been cut to be smaller in size than normal.

Update: LAMC Experiences Power Outage, Operating On Backup Power

Update: Power has been restored at LAMC.

LAMC News:

A power outage ocurred at 1 p.m. today at Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC). The hospital lost power is on backup power. Utility crews are on site working to restore power.

At 1:30 p.m. linemen determined that the power outage at the Los Alamos Medical Center was caused by a faulted underground line that feeds LAMC. LAMC is currently using its backup generator to supply power. Crews are in contact with medical center facilities staff. It is expected that it will to be restored by 4 p.m. today. Read More

I think that the term “windfall” is not appropriate to describe the gross receipts taxes paid by LANL contractors. Merriam-Webster defines “windfall” as:
1: something (such as a tree or fruit) blown down by the wind;
2: an unexpected, unearned, or sudden gain or advantage.
 
The term is not correct for two reasons: first, the term refers to a “one-time” event. Once all the apples are off the tree you can expect no more apples to fall. The citizens of Los Alamos should expect that LANL contractors will continue paying gross receipts

PEEC Announces Nature Center Holiday Hours

The Los Alamos Nature Center will be closed Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1 and open all other days in December and January. Due to the holidays, several Los Alamos County facilities will operate on a modified schedule. This is includes the County Administrative Offices, which will be closed Christmas Day, Dec. 25 and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1.

Los Alamos County Administration offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1 for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.

East Bound Trinity Drive Lane & Median Closure

COUNTY News:

Road construction and traffic diversion begins at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 21 and continues through Dec. 26 while crews adjust manholes.

The Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division of Public Works will close the eastbound inside lane and median between 15th and 20th Street.

The closure will remain in place over the Holiday weekend to allow for concrete to set.
