Our last Transportation Board meeting, Feb. 1, was a busy one. First, I was elected board chair and Michael Altherr vice chair.
Next we received a presentation on ADA Paratransit from Atomic City Transportation (ACT). The NMDOT Comprehensive Review recommended that we clarify our no-show suspension policy, defining the time period over which the 15 percent no-show rate is defined. February’s Library Board meeting focused on the library’s strategic plan for 2024-2027.
The library began working on this in February 2023; the goals identified within this plan are intended to provide direction for library initiatives and were developed with input from staff and the Library Board.
The strategic plan relies on community input gathered from surveys, conversations, and focus groups during the research phase of the Community Services Integrated Master Plan.
The plan’s three goals are:
- 1). improve organizational reach and impact;

Rendija Road Closing Wednesday For Water Leak Repair
Water crews from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will close Rendija Road at 8 p.m. Wednesday to repair a leak on the Guaje Canyon water transmission line.
Until DPU’s crews expose the line and see the condition of it, they won’t have a firm timeline for the repair, however they estimate the work and the road closure could take up to two days.
Los Alamos residents and San Ildefonso commuters will not be able to access the road, the Pajarito Trailhead or Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club during that time. Read More

Swim Lessons For All Ages At Los Alamos Aquatic Center

Los Alamos County Aquatic Center has announced that swim lessons are being offered by two contractors, 505 Swimming LLC from Santa Fe and Anna Zhang from Los Alamos. Both contractors will be providing group and individual lessons for various ages and skill levels.

Wednesday Is ‘Los Alamos Day’ At The Legislature
Los Alamos County officials have announced that Wednesday, Feb. 14, is “Los Alamos Day” at the Legislature. The event will be held 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Roundhouse at 490 Old Santa Fe Trail in Santa Fe.

All County Facilities Closing At 2 P.M. Today
Los Alamos County Manager Steven Lynne has ordered the closure of all open County government facilities at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 10 due to hazardous weather conditions.
Officials advise this includes both libraries, the Aquatic Center, Ice Rink, Los Alamos Eco Station and White Rock Convenience Center.
County Traffic and Street crews will continue to clear the major roads and streets according to the FY24 Snow and Ice Control Plan. The community can help facilitate snow removal by parking vehicles off the street.

Raccoons are a common sight in Los Alamos but this doesn’t mean they are safe or friendly to humans. In fact, raccoons can be quite dangerous if they get too close.
Follow these tips for safety around raccoons:

County Clerk’s Office Receives Mobile Voting Unit
Los Alamos County Clerk Naomi Maestas on the landing of the new Mobile Voting Unit (MVU) delivered this morning to Pajarito Cliffs Site. The MVU will be outfitted and ready for voters to utilize in June for the Primary Election. The MVU was purchased with an Election Security Grant and is the second unit to be utilized in the state of New Mexico. Pinon School To Close Today Due To Power Outage
Pinon Elementary School will have to close today due to an unexpected power outage.
The county expects the outage to last 4-5 hours.
All parents should pick up students at Pinon as soon possible.
