Threading Forever Closing Reception Friday
Mesa Public Library will join the “Fourth Fridays” special activities, 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 25, with a closing reception for the exhibit Threading Forever.
There will be a gallery talk at 6 p.m. by Jim Caffrey, a well-known photographer and teacher. The exhibit has been on display in the Upstairs Art Gallery since June 5. The photographs of Theresa DiMenno, the sculpture of Harriette Lawler, the drawings and paintings of Mohammed Bin Lamin and photography of Jim Caffrey are all included in the exhibit. The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.
Also on display at the closing reception are two videos about Bin Lamin, who is a Libyan artist who was imprisoned on the eve of the Libyan uprising in the notorious Abu Salim prison. One video shows his unique method of drawing, while the other is a newscast about the drawing he did on his cell walls during his imprisonment.
Jemez-based artist Lawler has brought this diverse group of artists together, as a result of her experience in many national and international shows. Her work is a very lyrical and musical expression, which she draws out of metal.
Photographer DiMenno has been exploring the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly in her recent work. This area of photography was featured in the recent show at the Cockrell Butterfly Center in the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
Caffrey is a New Mexico photographer, teacher and guide who is a special guest of the Threading Forever collaborative for the show in the Upstairs Gallery.
This month Fourth Friday events include the Los Alamos Historical Society and Museum hosting an Eye Spy the Historical District scavenger hunt, a shared activity with the Fuller Lodge Arts Center, and the Bradbury Science Museum featuring Exploring the Solar System.
Fourth Fridays will continue throughout the year. For more information, visit www.creativelosalamos.com.
