IHM Holds Friday Fish Fries

IHM News:

It is Fish Fry time again at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall, 5 to 7 p.m. Fridays during Lent.

The dinners are sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and proceeds will benefit Nuestros Pequenos Orphanage in Honduras and other charities.

Adult plates are $10 and have two pieces of cod, with coleslaw and rice or french fries, plus a drink and dessert.

Children may have one piece of fish or a grilled cheese sandwich with all the rest for $7 a plate.

An Evening with Zen Master Shodo Harada Roshi

 Calligraphy’s long and rich history in Japan both as an art form and teaching device is well suited to Zen’s emphasis on immediate, unhesitating, and spontaneous expression.

Weaving in an aural overview of calligraphy’s history as he works skillfully with brush and ink, Zen Master Shodo Harada Roshi will share his personal journey both as a monk and with this spiritual art form.

Roshi's presentation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26  in the St.

Generations Program Explores The Trinity

This week at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, join the congregation for Generations.

The program will discuss how to receive God’s love and how to be in a relationship with each person of the Trinity (One God, three distinct persons.)

Generations takes place at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10. A free meal will be served and at 6:07 p.m. the program begins, with contemporary music by the Generations band, a sermon by Mother Alicia Pope, and the receiving of Holy Eucharist.

St. Valentine’s Day is coming up Feb.

TOTH Hosts Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., invites the community to a Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras) pancake supper from 5:30-7 p.m., Feb. 12.

There will be beads, masks and Dixieland music. The menu includes ham, pancakes, a variety of syrups, fruit, eggs cooked to order, and orange juice. 

Tickets can be purchased at the door at $4 for children, $8 for adults, and $20 for a family. All proceeds go toward the Juarez House Build Mission trips, which take place this fall.

Come hungry and you will be fed!

Our Lady of the Woods holds Divination Night

Our Lady of the Woods will hold a Divination Night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 in the Art Room (upstairs, west end of the building) of the Los Alamos Unitarian Church. The group will gather to do divination for the upcoming year.

Amber K and Azrael Arynn K, authors of Heart of Tarot, will be among those attending. Heart of Tarot explores the Gestalt method of reading the Tarot. 

In the book’s introduction, the authors’ write, "Your mind has an infinite capacity to make connections and to find meanings in disconnected facts or abstract symbols.

Boys and Girls Invited to Participate in Annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition

Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

The local competition will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26 from at Los Alamos High School's Griffith Gymnasium.

Registration will be held onsite beginning at 12:30 p.m. and it's free of charge.

Parental consent is required, so a parent/guardian must be present during registration.

Do Not Be Afraid ... Learn More Sunday

In our culture, we are surrounded by constant reminders to be afraid. The news mostly covers stories about disastrous occurrences happening throughout our country, and advertisements are constantly telling us that we need to buy their products to prevent disasters and afflictions from happening to us.

On top of this, we have all personally endured pain and suffering of some kind. Then we hear from God that He does not want us to fear, even when we hear or see bad things happening around us.

How do we do that when everything around us tells us to be afraid?

IHM Catholic Church Continues Christmas Tradition

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church parishioners continue their Christmas tradition this year of taking gift tags from their Angel Tree responding to needy children's and senior's Christmas wishes. This year they gathered more than I,000 gifts including numerous bicycles. This is just another example of the generosity of the Los Alamos community. Photo by Kenneth Lee
