SBA Seeks Applicants For Emerging Leaders Program

ALBUQUERQUE  The New Mexico District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is accepting applications for the 2017 Emerging Leaders executive level training program designed for established small businesses that are poised for growth.
 
The program has graduated more than 100 talented New Mexico small business owners since its inception in 2008. 
  
“The SBA New Mexico District Office is honored to host our 10th annual Emerging Leaders training,” District Director John M. Garcia said. “The intense 7-month entrepreneurship course creates a learning environment that accelerates the growth of high-potential small businesses and has a positive ripple effect on the economy of New Mexico.”
 
The Emerging Leaders training program supports business growth by guiding participants in accessing new avenues of capital, new paths for business development and new connections to government resources and local business leaders.  Participants work with experienced mentors from the fields of accounting, finance and government contracting. 
 
Participants also form peer-to-peer CEO Mentoring groups which allow for business relationships that continue after the course ends. The course will run April – October 2017 and applicants must apply online by March 24, 2017 at https://www.interise.org/sbaemergingleaders
 
To be eligible to participate, businesses must:
  • Be in business for at least 3 years,
  • Have at least 1 employee besides themselves and
  • Have at least $350,000 in annual revenues.
 
Phoebe Suina, Owner and Principal of High Water Mark, LLC, an environmental and project management company located in Cochiti Pueblo, graduated as the Class Speaker of the Emerging Leaders 2016 Program. 
 
She shares how the program benefited her company: “As a result of going through the program, my fellow business owners and I developed Growth Action Plans (GAPs) for our businesses that outline a realistic road map to achieve self-developed goals, which will take our businesses to the next level within two to five years.
 
Since I graduated from the program, my business has already hired two new professional-level employees, created internal processes to help scale our business, reduced our accounts receivables and improved our cash flow. After going through the Emerging Leaders Program, I feel confident that High Water Mark has a strong base and plan that will help me achieve my larger long term vision and goals.”
 
The Emerging Leaders –Albuquerque program is one of 51 programs offered by the SBA nationwide. In 2015, nationally, Emerging Leaders graduates reported a 96% satisfaction rating with the program. They also reported an average 39% revenue growth and created 400 new jobs just one year after program completion.
