RPLA/LAFRW Host 2017 Constitution Day Dinner

The Republican Party of Los Alamos and the Federated Republican Women of Los Alamos hosted the annual Constitution Day Dinner Saturday evening at the Church of Christ on Diamond Drive.
 
RPLA Chair John Bliss welcomed everyone to the event. Kelly Zunie, GOP candidate for Lt. Governor was the guest speaker and spoke on "The Characteristics of an American Citizen." The Honorable Bill Redmond delivered the Invocation and Benediction and Los Alamos HIgh School senior and Boy Scout Thomas Gordon led the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
The night was dedicated to Nona Bowman, Mary Brooks and Lawry Mann, local GOP members who passed away in the last six months. A memorial table was set up in their honor with the opportunity for people to contribute to one of their favorite charities. 
 
A highlight of Saturday's special event was a presentation by students who won the annual Constitution Essay Contest. They each recited their winning essay and were awarded certificates and scholarship checks.This was the 3rd Annual Constitution Day Essay Contest sponsored by the LAFRW. Each year, the winners are featured at the Constitution Day Dinner, awarded and given the opportunity to read their essays.
 
This year's winners are:
Shena Han - High School;
Jack Ammerman - Middle School (home-school);
Jillian Lewis - Chamisa Elementary School; and not pictured is Heidi Sheppard - LAMS Honorable Mention.
 
Bethany Tierney, past president of LAFRW, awarded the prizes to the winners in the amount of $300 for high school, $200 for middle school and $100 for elementary. 
 
Dinner was provided by Secret City Kitchen.
