PEEC News:

A hearty group of Los Alamos Rotarians came to the Los Alamos Nature Center, Saturday Sept. 23, to help construct a new nature play area.

They worked through rain and wind and sun to stain logs for the new sandbox. Other volunteers, including local Eagle Scout candidate Junseo Kim, joined in as well, digging holes in which to place the logs.

The Rotarians also donated funds towards new planter benches being installed between the nature play area and the landscaped gardens at the nature center. The benches were built by craftspeople at Delancy Street, thus “paying forward” the Rotary’s gift to help two organizations.

Sam Gardner and Clay Mosely were instrumental in preparing the hard-packed ground for hand digging, and in digging a trench for the new waterway that will be a main feature of the nature play area.

PEEC is so grateful to these generous volunteers for their time and effort. Work is still ongoing at the nature play area, and more volunteers are needed. Anyone interested in lending a hand may contact Katie Bruell, director@peecnature.org or 505.662.0460.
