PEEC News:

Instructor and artist Lisa Coddington is offering two workshops (one on Thursday, Oct. 12, and the other on Saturday, Oct. 14) that focus on drawing and painting fascinating natural subjects of Autumn.

These classes, made possible by Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), take place at the Los Alamos Nature Center from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and focus on creating colorful, intricate leaves.

In both the Oct. 12 and Oct. 14 classes participants will explore making color charts and creating their own colorful leaves. Coddington will show how layers of transparent colors make beautiful leaves and share techniques for creating vein detail. The class will also cover use of paint to bring the subject to life on the page, including glazing.

Lisa Coddington earned her Master of Art in Illustration at Syracuse University. She has illustrated a children's book and has received commissions by regional and national firms for her artwork and art instruction. Her whimsical characters have been licensed for ornaments and are also featured on greeting cards. Coddington's designs are also applied to home textiles for major retailers. She has exhibited at SURTEX Licensing show in New York City for seven years, and she is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists. Coddington has been instructing for over ten years, and she currently teaches at Santa Fe Community College. She also leads specialized art retreats around New Mexico and the U.S. To learn more about Coddington and her work, visit www.lisacoddington.com.

Each class is $70, or $56 for PEEC members, which also includes a resource list and supportive handouts. Village Arts typically carries all the necessary supplies, which range in price from $30 to $35 per participant. Advance registration is required, and space is limited.
