Mark Anthony Chavez, born February 13, 1962 of Los Alamos, New Mexico, passed away from liver failure after a two year courageous fight. He went into the arms of the Lord peacefully on March 6, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his oldest brother Mitchell Paul Chavez, older brother Nicholas Thomas Chavez, his oldest nephew Jason A. Smith, and brother in-law Joe E. Chavez.
He is survived by his wife Christine Byers; his daughter Brianna Costa; his parents Pascual and Margaret Chavez; his oldest brother Mitch’s children Tony and Brittany Chavez and grandchildren Monique, Winter and Jayla; his older brother Nick's wife Susan Chavez, children Ryan and Nicole and grandchildren Jaxon and Niles; his older sister Annette Chavez Aragon, her partner Mark Garland, Annette's children Andrea and Marcelo and Annette's grandchildren, D.J. and Mariah; his younger sister Stephanie Chavez and her daughter Vanessa; his younger brother James Chavez and his son Dylan; his youngest sister Francesca and her husband Kendal Giles and their children Michaela and Gabriel; his youngest brother Stephen Chavez and his daughter Sophia; and his special companion Laura Godel and her daughters Danielle and Hannah.
Mark would like to be remembered as a loving, kind, generous, and friendly person; a hard worker, and most importantly that he loved his family, wife Christine, and true friends more than anything. “I want you all to smile when you think of me,” he asked.
He wished the following to be conveyed to his family members: “Mom and Dad, I love you, thank you for being the most wonderful parents anyone could ever have. Annette, you are the strongest person I know. You have such compassion; I could always call on you for any reason. You truly are a soldier. Stephanie, you are my twin, and my best friend. James, we have so many memories together, please think of me and remember how happy we were. My baby sister, Francesca, I am so proud of you and the life you have made for yourself. My youngest brother, Stephen, you always looked up to me. I hope I was a good influence in your life. Keep looking up! My wife Christine, thank you for loving me just the way I was, and especially for taking care of me physically and mentally. I will always love you. My Special friend, Tim Rohane, thanks for the memories and the support in my time of need. I love you brother.”
A very special thanks to Dr. Bradley Rowberry, his staff and nurse Linda from the LAMC. Dr. Rowberry fought for Mark so deeply, and even attended to him on his days off. He and Mark became true friends, spending much time together, and he was with us until the very end. You are a very special doctor and a very special friend. May God bless you.
Mark’s sister Stephanie wishes the following to be known: “As little kids it was always Mark and Steph, skipping down the street hand in hand; we were “besties”. The last month of his toughest times he would call me and ask me to pray with him. And we did. It was from that point on we made it our prayer time, every night at 7:00 pm. During one of the nights that we prayed, the Spirit of the Lord was upon us. It was then I knew Mark wanted me to lead him in prayer for his Salvation. I was so honored and blessed that he asked me to pray him home. When the time came for us to go to Denver, we had such a beautiful day. We knew, we knew then he was going to pass. As he lay there with no fear, just peace, I was sitting next to him with one hand in his and the other on his heart. It was then he took his last breath. I know that when it’s my time, Mark will be there with one hand out, waiting for my hand to usher me Home. With all my love, Stephanie.”
“I WILL WATCH OVER ALL OF YOU, MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL.”
Rosary will be said at 10:00 a.m., a brief eulogy given at 10:30 followed by the mass at 11:00 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3700 Canyon Road, Los Alamos, New Mexico on Thursday March 31, 2016.
A potluck reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Please contact Lisa Romero, the Potluck coordinator at 505.662.5312 for your dessert and food donations. Mark has requested that we play “his” favorite music, see a slide show of pictures from his life, and that dear friends have a chance to “stand up” and share your memories.
