GENEVIEVE A. (JANE) DURAN
April 3, 2017

Genevieve A. (Jane) Duran, age 90, passed away at the Los Alamos Medical Center April 3, 2017.

Jane was devoted to her God, her family, and her Church. Jane and Leo, her husband of 70 years moved to Los Alamos in 1949.

Jane had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and served in the ministries of the Altar and Rosary Society; the Workroom that provided clothing and other household supplies to the needy; and Loaves and Fishes, providing food to the needy and homeless in Santa Fe.

Jane loved her family; she was always there for both her immediate and extended family. She is survived by the love of her life and husband, Leo; two daughters, Bernadette and Susan; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; seven Godchildren; three sisters; and many other relatives and friends.

Jane was a real estate broker and co-owner of Sun Valley Realty in Espanola. Beyond her love for God and her family, her great joys were needlework and, in particular, quilting. She was a founding member of The Sewing Club in Los Alamos, and she blessed her family by giving them quilts that we cherish. She worked with the Los Alamos Senior Center Quilters to provide quilts to children in Albuquerque hospitals and to Cerro Grande Fire survivors. She was good at all crafts and baked and decorated many cakes for family events. She was a volunteer for the Los Alamos Volunteer Association at the Betty Ehart Senior Center since 1987. We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vicente and Epimenia; three brothers, Manuel, Vicente Albert, and Vicente Gilbert; and two sisters, Piedad and Clarita.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church’s Christian Concern Committee or to a charity of your choice.

Jane is now with our Father in Heaven. A Rosary will be held at 11 a.m., April 24, 2017 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m.

Please join us for a reception in the Karen McLaughlin Parish Hall following the service. Interment will be at a later date.
