Carrie “Sue” Vandervoort passed into Glory unexpectedly on Monday, November 27, 2017.
 
Sue was born on June 17, 1933 in Tucson, AZ to the late Jamie Gambrell and Hal Lynn Kerr. Sue grew up in Socorro, and then Los Alamos, NM, where she was in one of the first graduating classes of Los Alamos High School (1951) and met the love of her life, Ray. Sue and Ray worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory for many years, raising their two daughters, Susan Marie and Nancy Ann.
 
Sue was a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the First Baptist Church, and Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church. After retiring, Sue and Ray enjoyed farming and ranching in San Antonio, NM.
 
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ray, their daughters Susan Bailey of Fort Collins, CO, and Nancy McMath and son-in-law Gary McMath of Los Alamos, NM, grandchildren Jake and Rachel Bailey, Michelle and Tim Hutton, Matt Bailey, Megan and Kurt Groeters, Sarah Riebe, Brian and Jenny McMath, Garrett McMath, Erin and Miranda McMath, and great grandchildren Eloise and Hazel Bailey. She is preceded in death by her parents, foster mother Leona Hulse, and stepmother Jody Kerr.
 
Sue was laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. March 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Socorro, NM, 203 Spring Street. For more information, please call Nancy McMath at 505.690.7289.
