LAPS News:
On the evening of Oct, 14, the old De Colores restaurant will be transformed into a Spanish scene for the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation’s popular fundraiser, Taste of Knowledge.
Event-goers will be treated to scrumptious Spanish tapas prepared by Pig+Fig and boutique wines to complement each dish. Adding to the festive atmosphere will be live dance and musical performances.
To kick off the evening, local jazz band The Ryan Finn Quartet will play while tapas and wine are served. The quartet features Ryan Finn on trombone, Tom Rheam on piano, David Rogers on bass, and Mike Harris on drums. Finn is the Los Alamos Middle School Band instructor, whose classroom benefitted from a $25,000 makeover facilitated by the LAPS Foundation in the summer of 2016.
Midway through the evening, several talented students will perform dances befitting of the Spanish theme. Catherine Rousculp and Rebecca Brug, both LAHS students and members of Dance Arts Los Alamos, will perform an excerpt from Don Quixote. Following that, LAHS student Jenna Espinoza will perform a type of folk dance from Spain called Sevillanas, which is similar to Flamenco.
The Ryan Finn Quartet will come back on to play another set near the end of the evening. The event will also feature silent and live auctions with a number of lovely items generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Some of the more unique items include a quilt of the periodic table of elements, a chance to guest announce a game with Morrie Pongratz, aka “The Voice of the Hilltoppers”, and lunch for up to 6 people with LAPS Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus.
Tickets for Taste of Knowledge are $65 for general admission or $50 for LAPS employees. Admission includes tapas and wine pairings, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a keepsake wine glass. Tickets may be purchased at or by contacting the LAPS Foundation at 505.500.6501.
