LANB Hosts United Way 2013 Campaign Kick Off

A large crowd filled the lobby of Los Alamos National Bank Wednesday evening for the United Way of Northern New Mexico's annual kick off campaign.
United Way Executive Director Kristy Ortega recognized Debbi Wersonick, Carol Rutten and Linda Anderman of Los Alamos National Laboratory's Community Programs Office.
Los Alamos National Bank Senior Vice President Jill Cook, former United Way president introduced various dignitaries in the crowd.
Chamber of Commerce Member Services Coordinator Katy Korkos coordinated the FAN Club event.
This year, United Way received 31 grant applications totaling $1,590,689 and was able to fund 24 organizations through grants totaling $973,171.
Funded Partners in attendance at Wednesday's campaign kick off included:
- Self Help, Ellen Morris Bond;
- Chama Valley Humane Society, Jean Garlie and canine Shep;
- Los Alamos Family YMCA, Linda Daly;
- Los Alamos Family Council, Joyce Beery and Cheryl Pongratz;
- Los Alamos Heart Council, Ann Revelle;
- Habitat for Humanity, Stan Primak;
- Big Brother’s Big Sister’s;
- Amigo’s De Valle;
- Boy and Girls Club Del Norte;
- Espanola Family Learning Center; and
- Little Forrest Playschool.
United Way is a grantmaker that holds the largest annual campaign fundraiser locally, benefiting many local organizations and grant recipients.
The campaign goal for this year is $1,590,689.
United Way has a volunteer board and dozens of community members who work throughout the year to help bring success to each fundraising campaign, including the Youth Team campaign.
The goal for the United Way Youth Team this year is $11,000. The Youth Team is holdng its third annual "Taste the Sky" fundraiser dinner from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at Los Alamos County Airport. For additional information, call 662-0800.
United Way is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to engaging human and financial resources to improve the quality of life of the people in the communities it serves in Northern New Mexico.

- RE/MAX Cornerstone/Pace Setter: $1,000
- Neptune, Cornerstone/Pace Setter: $1,000
The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce donated $8,200 from its charity golf tournament.
