Local Democrats Meet Thursday

The Democratic Party of Los Alamos will hold its monthly meetingat 7 p.m., Thursday July 19 att Mesa Public Library.

The group will discuss upcoming events including a visit from U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate.

The meeting is open to the public.

Candidate Stephanie Richard Marches with Congressional Delegation in Sunday Parade

New Mexico House District 43 Democratic candidate Stephanie Garcia Richard marched in the Espanola Fiesta Parade Sunday with U.S. Sen. Tom Udall Sunday. Richard and Udall were joined by New Mexico's U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich and about 100 other people walking in the parade in support of Democratic candidates. More than a dozen Los Alamos residents traveled to Espanola to participate in the event for which several thousand people lined the streets.Richard met voters from areas of Rio Arriba that now share the same legislative district with Los Alamos. Three Televised Debates to Give Voters Unscripted Opportunity to See Where Senatorial Candidates Stand

U.S. Senatorial Candidate Heather Wilson announced today that she has accepted invitations to participate in three televised debates put on by New Mexico’s three major television broadcast stations.

“By accepting all three of these televised debates during the month of October, prior to the general election on Nov. 6, 90 percent of New Mexicans will be able to see Rep. (Martin) Heinrich and me give unscripted answers to questions about how we will get our country back on track,” Wilson said.

U.S. Senatorial Candidate Heather Wilson Raises Concerns for LANL’s Future

U.S. Senatorial candidate Heather Wilson expressed worry "that there is no longer anyone standing up for Los Alamos National Laboratory since Sen. Pete Domenici retired."

"Sending out press releases and speaking about amendments after they've been decided is ineffective," Wilson said during a telephone interview today from Albuquerque.

Known for her strong advocacy for homeland security, the former U.S. Congresswoman cautioned about allowing LANL's Chemical and Metallurgy Research Replacement (CMRR) project to linger in limbo for too long.

Local Democrats Host Booth at Overlook Park Wednesday

The Democratic Party of Los Alamos July 4 Celebration at Overlook Park will still take place despite the fireworks cancellation.
 
The DPLA will have a booth set up again to pass out water, flags and meet the public.
 
Many of our local candidates will be present, and the music and celebration will go on as planned.

We invite the public to stop by our booth to meet the candidates and spend time with Los Alamos Democrats.
 

BREAKING NEWS: Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Law

In a 5-4 majority, the U.S. Supreme Court, moments ago, announced that it upholds the Obama Administration law that requires most Americans to get health insurance by 2014 or pay a financial penalty.

"The Affordable Care Act's requirement that certain individuals pay a financial penalty for not obtaining health insurance may reasonably be characterized as a tax," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the court's majority. "Because the Constitution permits such a tax, it is not our role to forbid it, or to pass upon its wisdom or fairness."
