Del Norte Credit Union Expands DNCU Scholarship Program in 2017
- Scholarship programs expands eligibility to home‐schooled and GED candidates
SANTA FE — Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU), Northern New Mexico’s hometown financial co‐op, has announced an expansion of its DNCU Scholarship Program for 2017.
Scholarships will now be offered to 10 students, signifying an increase from seven winners in previous years. This one‐time award of $1,000 is applied toward the higher educational program in which the winning students are enrolled in the fall of 2017. In addition, one scholarship is earmarked for a GED candidate and another for a home‐schooled student.
“We want to reach more students with our DNCU Scholarship Program because there is such a critical financial need,” DNCU President/CEO Chuck Valenti said. In addition, he explains why the designation for the scholarships was altered. “But at the same time we realized that education is not one‐size‐fits‐all, and GED and homeschooled students are just as worthy and will be equally successful in higher education programs.”
DNCU will award one qualifying GED applicant and one home‐schooled student in 2017 in addition to eight students of full‐time high school programs (both public and private schools qualify). In the event that
there are no qualifying GED and home‐school scholarship applicants, the two scholarships will be added to the pool of scholarships available to full‐time high school students.
DNCU’s Scholarship Award is a $1,000 award given to members in good standing who are in pursuit of higher education at any college, university, or vocational school. Winners are chosen based on their academic record, work experience, statement of goals, and demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship
America, the nation’s largest nonprofit scholarship and education support organization.
