BTLA News:

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month. Approximately 1 in 4 women will lose a pregnancy at some point in their lives, and in the US approximately 5 in 1,000 infants are stillborn or do not live more than a month.

Loss is a difficult and often taboo subject, but it is an important conversation to have. The experience of loss, as defined by the person experiencing it, is unique to that person. We believe that each person’s experience deserves to be honored.

Birth Talk Los Alamos will hold space at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, for those who have suffered pregnancy and infant loss. Facilitators of the local MISS Foundation support group will be at the meeting. There will be a brief ceremony of remembrance. Everyone, including babies not yet crawling, is welcome to attend. May your heart find you in this circle.

Birth Talk provides a safe space for peer support in which to share experiences, questions, and local options around pregnancy, birth and early parenting. Babies-in-arms, partners, and friends are always welcome in these circles.

Birth Talk Los Alamos meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at Family Strengths Network at 3540 Orange St. in Los Alamos. Birth Talk has been meeting monthly since 2011. The MISS Foundation offers peer support for the death of a child at any age for any reason. Meetings are 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the library at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church at 3900 Trinity Dr. in Los Alamos. The MISS Foundation has been meeting in Los Alamos since 2014. Parents and grandparents are always welcome. However, due to the nature of MISS meetings and for the sake of tender emotions, families should make other arrangements for younger members.
