JOSEPH JAMES PETRANTO May 2, 2024
Joseph passed away peacefully surrounded by his favorite music and his loved ones last week.
He is survived by his son, Steve (Maria); daughter, Lisa; and grandson, Joe. He was preceded in death by wife, Audrey; his son, Paul (Shirley) and grandson (Anthony.)
He was a devoted family man, a loyal friend, a LANL mechanical engineer extraordinaire, and a big band enthusiast. He was also a faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and a dedicated Cowboy and Broncos fan.

County Repair Plan Targets Quemazon Water Leaks
County staff are putting a repair plan into motion after a string of recent emergency water leaks in the Quemazon subdivision left a stretch of road in disrepair there.
Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities (DPU) and Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Division crews are collaborating on the plan for Quemazon between Corona and Tranquilo. County Planning & Zoning Commission To Meet May 8

The Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission is scheduled to meet 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. Due to elections, the meeting will be held in the Boards and Commissions Room #110, near the stairs inside the Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave.
The meeting is open to the public.

Every year, Los Alamos County and New Mexico Game & Fish receive many phone calls from the public concerning abandoned newborn fawns. In almost every instance, the fawns have not been abandoned and are waiting for the doe to return to nurse.
People who find newborn fawns should never approach or pick them up—doing so dramatically decreases the probability that it will survive. Read More

New Mexicans over the age of 60 lost more than $17 million in online frauds and scams last year, according to a special report from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
IC3 said 759 of the state’s senior residents lost a total of $17,784,632 in 2023.
The costliest types of scams for Elders in New Mexico were:
- Confidence/Romance Scams at $4.9 million;
- Investment Scams at $4.6 million; and
- Tech Support Scams at $3.1 million.

Junior Ranger Mini Camps At Fort Union May 25-26

WATROUS — Fort Union National Monument announces its annual Junior Ranger Mini-Camps to be held Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. Camps are 90-minutes in length, and there are two 90-minute sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day.
The camps are best suited for children ages 7-12 and will allow them to discover the culture and history of 19th century army life in the American Southwest with ranger-led games and activities.

ALBUQUERQUE — A federal judge handed down a 12-month plus one day prison sentence to a Fruitland man for assaulting his neighbor after a long-simmering tension boiled over.
